Default PvP Experience

Well, I finally decided to give PvP a go. Without being too negative (I'm more curious than anything), what's the appeal?

I found PvP to be the absolute most boring and random thing I've done in tha game so far. It was 4 completely random players against 4 completly random players. No ryhme or reason as to how teams are made or what classes you get. Then you have like 30 seconds to strategize before the missions starts which isn't enough time considering you've never seen these people before and most people don't even get a rats a$$.

Battle starts and eventually some guy runs over and some people start dying. Half the time when someone dies they leave so that team is screwed. The other half the time no one rezzes you and it's a FFA. Then there's super uber twinked player X that runs over and does like insane DPS and drops you're whole team in 2 seconds.

I ended up winning 3 out of 5 matches last night but I can honestly say (unless I'm missing something) that PvP appears to be boring and full of too many variables.

Now I can see it being fun if it was "organized" pvp as in guild vs guild where you actually know and plan battles ahead of time. At least then you can strategize and plan etc, then execute. But pickup PVP seems like a waste.

Anyone care to shed any light?

Well,

honestly PvP isn't my thing either so probably I am not the one to defend it. But I do want to add something. From what I read here you tried the arena part of the game.

If you try tournament you'll be sent to the tomb of primeval kings. There parties of eight people are formed, not randomly.

You fight battles one team vs one team but also big battles in wich up to eight teams participate. If you win you advance to the next round. If you lose you're eliminated.

try it out, i think you'll love it

Matt.

Yes I played normal Arena PVP. Looks like I played in it lowest form. How does one enter the tournament for PVP that you are referring to?

I may just not be there in game yet.

You can get to the Tombs (the tournement area) by normal progression through the game. Its fairly noticable, you just walk out of one area that you are taken to by the storyline... Trying not to be too specific, don't want to spoil anything

PvP can be a hoot if you get a good team, thats hard if its a pickup team. The big problem is getting into a good and serious guild.I'm Still lookin for that.

I've always enjoyed the random PvP, even when having my butt handed to me. Sometimes you luck out and get a good team, other times, not so much. But that just gives me more insight into how to tweak my characters to be as tough as I can make them as well as seeing how effective certain skills are in PvP.

I agree. The learning curve in organized PvP is pretty steep, especially if you're entire team is new to organized PvP. I don't have a lot of experience in the tombs, but it seems like you have to have a halfway decent team to just not get wiped. Even 4 on 4 organized PvP can be a pretty tough place to learn PvP. At least in the random arenas, both teams are handicapped by the same lack of experience playing together. I suppose you got to start somewhere.

yup tombs pwn, you can get there directly after you ascend. you can start a balanced group with friends, and can take 8 hours to strategize if you want. most pickup groups arent very good, although the first pickup group i was ever in made it to the HoH. Also, skills may seem to be amazing in PvE, but may suck in PvP (firestorm).
